This extremely durable RFID tag can be applied directly to a silicone high-voltage insulator. Tracking the inventory, deployment, and replacement using RFID technology brings accuracy and efficiency to the process. RFID allows efficient long range (up to 35 feet) tracking of high voltage insulators. With an expected surge in high voltage capacity projects and refurbishment of older lines, individual insulator tracking plays a critical role in efficient power delivery.


Polymer (also known as composite or nonceramic) electric insulators are typically difficult to attach a RFID label to. This RFID tag will provide long life in severe industrial environments or outdoor exposure, because it is made of UV resistant and outdoor tested materials.


Custom configurations are available for RFID tracking of porcelain or glass insulators. Label can also be sized to conform to almost any silicone insulator.

Tag performance was experimentally measured in an anechoic chamber and a known set of experimental variables. The antenna used for measurements was linearly polarized and of monostatic configuration. The direction of tested polarization is as follows.
